Research
Frederic Baup received the M.S. degree in microwave and optical telecommunications in 2003, and the Ph.D degree from University Paul Sabatier, Toulouse, France, in 2007. Since 2008, he is researcher in microwave remote sensing at the CESBIO (Centre d’Etudes Spatiales de la BIOsphère) laboratory, located in Toulouse, France.
His research interests include microwave remote sensing applied to land surfaces and SAR image analysis to monitor spatio-temporal variations of soil (moisture and roughness) and vegetation (biomass) properties over agricultural or natural areas. His education interests are focused on physics and remote sensing sciences.
He is involved in projects supported by the ESA (European Space Agency), CSA (Canadian Space Agency), JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) and DLR (German Aerospace Center) agencies. He publishes in international journals and he is reviewer for journals and conference proceedings.
Frédéric Baup expertise and special interests:
(1) Development of inversion method for the estimation of surface parameters (soil and vegetation) from multifrequency microwave data (X, C and L band).
(2) Interest to combine optical, thermal and microwave satellite data to improve the land surface monitoring.
(3) Assimilation of satellite data into agro-meteorological model.
Activities in research and project participation
Co-PI of the PRECIEL project which aims to estimate water crop needs and yields using optical and SAR satellite data, combined with agro-meteorological model.
PI of CNES/TOSCA project entitled: Use of polarimetric SAR and optical data for crop monitoring and management.
Principal Investigator of ESA, CSA, DLR projects for use ENVISAT/ASAR, ALOS/PALSAR, Radarsat-2, Terrasar-X data to monitor agricultural surfaces.
