Depuis 2018, Directeur de Recherches INRAe affecté au Centre d’Etudes Spatiales de la BIOsphère (CESBIO, UMR CNES-CNRS-INRA-IRD-Université Toulouse III).

2003-2018 Maître de Conférences en Ecologie à l’Université Toulouse III, affecté au CESBIO. Analyse des flux et bilans de carbone, de GES, d’eau et d’énergie entre les grandes cultures et l’atmosphère à différentes échelles spatiales.

2002-2003 Post-Doctorant à l’INRA de Clermont-Theix (équipe FGEP sous la direction de Jean François Soussana) dans le cadre du programme européen GREENGRASS. Analyse des émissions nettes de GES des prairies et stratégies de réductions par adaptation des systèmes d’élevage.

1998-2001 Doctorant en co-tutelle Universités Paris XI-Orsay et Université Suédoise des Sciences de l’Agriculture (SLU) d’Uppsala. En parallèle, responsable scientifique du projet Whole Tree Chambers à Flakaliden (Suède): Etude des effets fertilisants du CO2 sur la croissance et les échanges gazeux à l’échelle de l’arbre chez l’Epicéa en Forêt Boréale.

Domaines de recherches :

Ecophysiologie végétale, Agronomie, Bioclimatologie, Télédétection, Cartographie et modélisation spatialisée du fonctionnement des agro-écosystèmes par assimilation de données satellitales à hautes résolutions spatiales et temporelles.

Développements méthodologiques :

– modèle SAFY-CO2 (Pique et al. 2020) permettant de simuler le développement des cultures et des couverts intermédiaires. Il permet d’estimer les composantes du bilan C, dont la biomasse, le rendement et les flux de CO2 (photosyhthèse, respiration du sol et des plantes, flux net). La particularité de cette approche est qu’elle utilise des séries temporelles de données satellites optiques haute résolution (issus de SPOT, FORMOSAT-2 ou Sentinel 2) pour calibrer la phénologie et l’efficacité de photosynthèse de la végétation dans le modèle, ce qui permet à ce dernier de reproduire de manière objective le développement des cultures et couverts « vus » par le satellite. Aussi, l’assimilation de données satellite dans le modèle permet de prendre en compte implicitement l’effet des stress (N, eau…) sur le développement de la végétation et de s’affranchir de la collecte de la plupart des données concernant les pratiques culturales (fertilisation, dates de semis…),ce qui rendre le modèle plus facilement spatialisable à grande échelle pour calculer les composantes du bilan C.

– modèle RFCC (Carrer et al., 2018) : permet de simuler l’effet albédo lié à l’introduction de cultures intermédiaires dans les rotations de cultures à large échelle (Pays, Europe) à une résolution de 5km en s’appuyant sur des produits occupation du sol (ECOCLIMAP) et albédo MODIS à basse résolution.

2007 à 2019 Responsable scientifique de l’Equipe/Chantier Sud Ouest mobilisant 40 personnes dont 24 permanents (https://www.cesbio.cnrs.fr/la-recherche/les-chantiers/sud-ouest/) qui vise à étudier le fonctionnement des surfaces continentales (production, flux/bilans d’énergie, d’eau, de C/GES principalement des grandes cultures) en lien avec les variables climatiques et les modes de gestion. Notre approche combinant expérimentation/analyse de processus, modélisation et télédétection s’attache à définir des méthodologies de transfert d’échelles de la parcelle jusqu’à la région s’appuyant sur l’utilisation de la télédétection multi-domaines (optique, thermique, radar) à hautes résolutions spatiale (8-20 mètres) et temporelle (5-50 images/an).

2007 à 2016 Co-Responsable scientifique (avec Gérard Dedieu, CNES) de l’Observatoire Spatial Régional (OSR) (https://www.cesbio.cnrs.fr/la-recherche/activites/observatoires/l-observatoire-spatial-regional-osr/), labellisé par l’INSU en 2007 (40 K€/an) et intégré dans le réseau international JECAM (Joint Experiment of Crop Assessment and Monitoring, www.jecam.org) et dans le pôle thématique surfaces continentales Theia (https://www.theia-land.fr/fr) au titre des Animations Régionales Theia (ART). Partie intégrante du Chantier Sud Ouest, l’OSR a pour objets le recueil et la mise à disposition sur la durée de données in-situ et de télédétection destinées à l’étude du fonctionnement des surfaces continentales aux échelles parcelles à régions, mais aussi à développer des partenariats avec des scientifiques et des acteurs du territoire. Le dispositif d’observation suit une approche emboîtée : sites expérimentaux instrumentés, mesures spatialisées de variables biophysiques lors de campagnes intensives, enquêtes sur l’usage des terres et acquisitions satellitales (optique, thermique et radar) à hautes résolutions spatiale et temporelle sur le Sud-ouest. La France est progressivement couverte avec des données hautes résolutions. Cet ensemble constitue un jeu de données unique au monde qui alimente la préparation de nouvelles missions spatiales. Mon rôle consiste notamment à faire le lien avec la communauté scientifique concernant les aspects flux et bilans C/GES et à développer des stratégies de collectes de données cohérentes avec nos objectifs scientifiques.

2004 à 2017 Responsable scientifique des parcelles instrumentées d’Auradé et de Lamasquère appartenant à l’OSR et aux réseaux internationaux Fluxnet et ICOS (Integrated Carbon Observation system, https://www.icos-ri.eu/) dédiés à l’étude des flux/bilans d’énergie, eau, C et GES. Elles contribuent aussi à la validation des cartes de variables biophysiques établies à partir des données de télédétection. Ce sont près de 160 équipes dans le monde qui utilisent ces données à des fins d’analyses, de modélisation ou de validation favorisant de nombreuses collaborations. Sites financés par le CNRS-INSU à 100 K€/an. Je suis toujours Co-responsable scientifique du site d’Auradé (avec Tiphaine Tallec qui est la responsable principale).
